“Regrowth Programs” offered by many hair loss clinics are a combination of lotions, tablets and low level laser treatment. They are often comprised of minoxidil (with a 5% – 7% concentration) and the prescription medication finasteride. Additional products such as herbal saw palmetto, vitamins, special company branded shampoos, thickening serums and low level laser treatment form part of “ the Hair Loss Treatment package”.
Regrowth programs are mainly suited for patients in the earlier stages of hair loss who want to maintain what they have and to perhaps slightly improve the thickness of existing hair. Regrowth programs produce minimal benefit to those in the more advanced stages of hair loss. Many clinics charge around $2000 per year to be on the program or the products can be obtained from any pharmacy for around $500 per year.
2.Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatment
This is the process of taking out a portion of blood from the patient and after a few procedural steps, re injecting only the portion of blood rich in growth factor containing platelets into the thinning area of the scalp. The growth factor being released within the thinning scalp can help existing weak hairs to become thicker and stronger. When PRP Hair Restoration is done properly it should produce visible improvements in density in more than 70% of suitable patients.
When it comes to treating hair loss, the effectiveness of PRP is heavily dependent on how it is performed and by whom. There are a number of variables between the clinics who offer this treatment which is covered on page 5 of this eBook.
3.Non-Surgical Hair Replacement
This is simply a hair piece that is glued to your scalp 24/7. Once every 3-4 weeks the patient returns to the clinic for a “refit” where the scalp is washed, the top is shaved before re gluing the hair piece on again. The average ongoing cost for hair pieces work out to around $5000 per year which comprises of refits, replacement hair pieces and maintenance products.
This is a surgical procedure of removing hair from the permanent zones within the back and sides of the scalp and transplanting these hairs into the thinning region on top of the scalp. A high percentage of the transplanted hairs will continue to grow for life and the patient may have to be aware of the possibility of an additional surgeries in the future if existing surrounding hairs thin further. There are massive differences between clinics when it comes to hair transplantation surgery and it is very important to be aware of these which are covered within this eBook.
The price of a hair transplant varies depending on the technique used and the number of grafts required to treat the thinning area. It is always best to be assessed by an actual hair transplant surgeon or at the very least a consultant with years of experience in the hair loss industry that has had a hair transplant themselves.
5.Scalp Micro-Pigmentation (SMP) Treatment
This is basically the process of tattooing tiny spots within bald areas of the scalp in order to mirror the shadow look of the shaven donor area at the back and the sides. Usually 2 or 3 sessions are required within the first few weeks and the result can look great for a few years before a top up session is required to maintain appropriate level of darkness.
